Letterman on Climate Change: “I’ll tell you why it’s too late, we’ve had no leadership!”

Last week when David Letterman had Thomas Friedman on in support of his new book, Hot, Flat, and Crowded, he had some choice words to say about global warming and the changing climate. In short, Letterman thinks we’re all screwed and that it is really too late to do anything about it. Dave’s remarks were pessimistic, to say the least, but I also think he does some of that for comedic effect.

What I appreciate more and more about David Letterman (though other demands mean I watch his show less and less) is that he no longer shields his politics. Sure, he’s always been critical of the stupid politician du jour, but his critiques are much more substantive now – and for that he deserves some props.

In the clip below, Letterman weaves a spirited diatribe through the intricacies climate change, alternative energy, gas prices, cutting carbon levels, riding bicycles, and most enthusiastically, the absence of political leadership that’s yet to help us get out of this mess.
