MJG #52: Limbaugh, O’Reilly, Hannity, and Beck: Environmental Superheroes

  • Published on February 24th, 2009

Long thought of as loud-mouth talking-heads that serve only to divide our nation with their far-right wing positions, it turns out Rush Limbaugh, Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity, and Glenn Beck are secretly saving the world one small ecological-footprint at a time.

Here is the first of a series of installments shining a light on what these environmental superheroes are doing to help heal Mother Earth. I only hope the actions of the “Trust-Us League” inspire the masses!

Under the angry, doughy, white exterior lie the ‘green’ innards of men with an undying love for the earth and all of its creatures.

  • Kevin,

I sort of get the sense that what you really object to is any individual who aspires to political gain by way of the deployment of deliberately manipulated statistics or gloom and doom scare tactics. If so, point taken, but I would caution against a viewpoint that would altogether disavow the integrity of any and all politicians in support of a progressive environmental politics.

Let me be perfectly clear: If we are speaking of the environment as a social issue then what we are speaking of is inherently political, thus requiring a political response. Furthermore, notions such as truth– "the truth", as you put it– as well as education, are profoundly political gestures with profoundly political impacts and should be treated accordingly. After all, it is precisely such attempts to circumvent the political aspects of environmentalism that put it at risk of becoming inert. I would assume that you, as a self-proclaimed environmentalist, should already know this.

The problem with environmentalists is that we are being led by political activists. Which is a shame, we need environmental leaders with no political aspirations. We need the truth! We are not getting it with the likes of Al Gore, who is perceived to be be an environmental leader, but actually makes things up. We Environmental minded people should be ashamed! We need to honestly educate those of doubt and fear.

These heroes are powering a large portion of the country by themselves! You can't care any "more" than that!

  • Bob

    So what's the point here?

Let's make fun of these people because that will make them care "more" about the environment?

That's what they've done to Environmentalists.

What I'd like to see from the writers is an analysis of their positions and why it is wrong.
