San Francisco Mayor Announces $4 Million for Energy Efficiency Programs

San Francisco

Today, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom will be announcing a major chunk of funding for the city’s commercial and residential energy efficiency program, called SF Energy Watch. Since it began in 2007, the program has been successful in creating 150 green collar jobs through services like free on-site assessments of energy usage.

Why do energy efficiency programs matter? To date, SF Energy Watch has reduced energy usage by 6 megawatts, which is about the amount it takes to power 6,000 San Francisco homes.

SF Energy Watch provides jobs for the green collar workforce of San Francisco and the Bay Area. As we move forward, energy efficiency will be increasingly important and in the national mainstream thanks to President Obama and his advocacy on the issue. I want to ensure that San Francisco has the base of workers to meet the need.
