T. Boone Pickens Gets Jon Stewart All Fired Up On The Daily Show

T. Boone Pickens brought his one-man clean energy road show to New York City and the studios of The Daily Show on Wednesday for a rousing pep rally that got host Jon Stewart all fired up on clean energy and the Pickens Plan. Stewart got so wrapped up in the whole thing he said, “I and the rest of my audience are ready to follow you out of the building right now.”

Stewart asked Pickens how we get there and what exactly we should do as voters, constituents, activists, consumers to do it. Pickens said what we haven’t had in the past and what we need is strong leadership. And although he made no mention of the recent news that the credit squeeze had cramped the Pickens Plan, he seemed hopeful that the future of his plan was in good hands with the pending change in administration. Senator Inhofe Vows a “Full Investigation” into “Suppressed” EPA Report on Climate Change

Senator Inhofe calls for a “full investigation” into what he terms as a cover-up of scientific data that “vindicates” his position that global warming is hoax. It’s either that or an increasingly desperate attempt to support an untenable position.

Sarah Palin on Energy: What a Switch!

Am I the only one who noticed that Sarah Palin has pulled a huge switchover when it comes to her take on energy policy?

Because it’s dramatic, and may presage the switch that I have been hoping for for a while: the divorce of the idea that a Conservative Environmentalist in politics is an oxymoron.

  1. Natural gas is not clean energy. It’s a fossil fuel, only 20% cleaner than gasoline. I wish Pickens would stop saying natural gas is clean, it’s not true!
You have a nice website though.

  2. I was upset that T. Boone did not mention biodiesel as a source of fuel for the trucking industry on the Daily Show. He made it sound like it was just natural gas or diesel that could fuel the American trucking fleet. I felt he misrepresented the options, and he discredited hybrid trucks by saying a big rig could not be powered by a battery. That may be true that there will never be EV semis, but certainly hybrid biodiesels is worth investigating as a viable option. I just don’t see replacing one non-renewable with another non-renewable is a long term solution, and thus I don’t entirely just T. Boone (who I always mistakenly call T.Bone, which was a dog that bit me in college).

  3. He never said it was clean, he said it was 80% cleaner than oil.
I don’t think the domestic natural gas should be intended for long term use, either. However, we do have a lot more of it, and it’s ours. It will be a great resource to help us reduce our foreign dependence, especially if we only use it for the big-rigs like he suggests and continue with electric cars.
Then, in that time when we’re bring jobs back to America and spend less money elsewhere, our scientists have more time to come up bigger and better solutions for that long-term fix we’re all seeking.
Tell me, what’s not to love about that?

  4. We can all contribute to cleaning up the environment if we would move from gas combustion engines to electric vehicles.

This is great, Electric Vehicle advocates need to check this out.

First legitimate electric car coming to the market.
    Safe, reliable and affordable.

  5. I have created a process/invention called the Agro-Filter Project that can end unemployment, homelessness and hunger; it also converts some types of pollution into a fuel and source of revenue as well as produces a viable, economical & virtually inexhaustible source of electricity. The Agro-Filter will also repair the depleted ozone layer. It’s a very simple process and you would think that people would be interested. To my dismay I cant seem to be able to contact anyone interested in doing anything about it or to pay attention and to help me bring this invention/process to fruition. If you want to help, my name is Chris De La Torre and my phone No.# is 503-935-2105. Please contact me A.S.A.P. thank you

  6. Nice website, thanks for the article, but could you please use a video source other than Hulu. Some of us outside the US cannot access Hulu at all, much as we care what goes on within the US.

  7. I can’t believe so many liberals and even high-level Democrats are so filled with love for T. Boone Pickens, a man who:

    - made his fortune through the practice of greenmailing, rather than actual hard work with productive results. The practice was effectively prohibited during the Clinton administration, mainly because of what he did.

    - funded the swift boat attacks on John Kerry in 2004

    - has a significant personal financial interest in natural gas! Of course he thinks it’s the only way and discounts electric vehicles. He put prop 10 on the ballot in California, which would have circumvented the market by writing into law specifics that can only be met by one company - Clean Energy - you guessed it, Pickens’ company.

    T. Boone Pickens himself says he doesn’t really care about the environment, merely national security and foreign oil. But what he really cares about is money, which is something that should be obvious in a billionaire.

This is a man who has done so much to hurt the Democrats, it’s amazing to watch them cozying up to a plan that solves nothing in the long term.

  8. [...] As part of a broader national effort to convert trucks to CNG, the plan would seem to dovetail nicely with what has been proposed by T. Boone Pickens. In addition to advocating for more wind energy to power our light cars and trucks, Pickens supports converting the nation’s truck-fueling infrastructure to natural gas. [...]
