Nathan Fillion introduces the new Arcimoto 5 electric vehicle

The New Arcimoto Red 5

What’s the best way to cap off Earth Week? How about introducing an electric car that may be THE breakthrough small, low-cost commuter vehicle for the masses? And since the Arcimoto SRK is also as cool as a spaceship (and makes you feel like you’re driving a shark), who better to introduce it than Nathan Fillion?

We’ll bring you a full report tomorrow, but in the meantime ogle the pics and check out the grainy video.

Oh, and if you want to buy one? You can pre-order at the Arcimoto website. Nathan Fillion is Customer #1… he’s planning on using his SRK to commute to his day job, shooting “Castle” for ABC.

This seems like a great idea, but…the impact of electric cars on the environment is greatly reduced when the electricity used to power them isn’t generated from clean sources. Until that happens, electric vehicles aren’t really going to help as much as we’d all like to think.

  4. I’m very fond of the idea…however, fitting a small child into a carseat and myself and my hubby….kinda hard to do cause I’m pretty sure that makes three but there are only two seats. 65mph =(

  7. This looks like a modified SPider, with a cockpit… pretty groovy! I worked on a series of skidoos that were modified to have side-by-side seats enclosed in a cockpit for Hydro Quebec… same sorta concept – SuperFly :)

I’m sorry, but when are they going to realize that people, most people, won’t buy electric vehicles unless they have a cool look? Some of the hybrids now do look pretty cool…but they are still too pricey for most people in our country. Most of us can’t afford a $30,000+ car!If they were to come down in price and make them look more appealing and be more safety minded, then they will start to really sell. I’ve got hope for the Chevy Volt, if they keep the price down. Plus a lot of us have commutes that are farther away from our jobs than 5 or 10 miles, I have a 42 mile round trip, just to work and back. In my opinion there is still work to do, but they are getting better.
