Organic farmers need your help TODAY: call/write your Senator
How the Senate votes today will determine what you get to put in your mouth for the next five years.
But if you take a quick and easy action right now, you’ll be helping to assure you have good, organic food. Your farmers will thank you, and your tummy will thank you, and every cell in your body will thank you.
What can you do? The Senate is taking action today on the 2012 Farm Bill, and the Organic Farming Research Foundation asks that you call or write your Senators and politely suggest that they:
- Vote YES on the Merkely Organic Crop Insurance Amendment. This makes crop insurance more accessible for organic farmers.
- Vote YES on the Brown Beginning Farmer and Rural Development Amendment. Where will we be without future organic farmers?!
- Vote NO WAY! on the Toomey Organic Certification Cost Share Amendment. This will deny access to organic certification to thousands of organic farmers.
What you can do:
Phone: Call the U.S. Capitol Switchboard at (202)224-3121, tell them which state you live in, and they’ll connect you with one of your Senators (after you speak to that office, ask them to connect you with your other Senator)
E-mail: Go to Congress.org, type in your zipcode, and you’ll be directed to the pages of your Senators (click on the “contact” tab and follow the instructions there). You can just cut and paste the bullet points above, but make sure to put a message in your own words as well (such as, “We support organic food and organic farmers, so we would appreciate you voting: ….)
