GOP Blocks Extension of Solar, Biomass, and Other Alt Energy Grants and Credits

As part of pushing for tax cuts for the rich, today Republicans filibustered (would not allow an up or down vote on) the Baucus Amendment that would have extended the deadline for solar projects to get a 30% cash grant. (Previous story:  Solar Cash Grant Extension to be in Saturday’s Tax Cut Vote!)

The maneuver blocked extensions of a range of renewable energy tax provisions, that congress could have had a chance to vote up or down, if the GOP had not filibustered the entire bill.

Just a few:

  • Tax credits for heavy hybrid and natural gas vehicles and a 30% investment tax credit for alternative fuel refueling stations.
  • A $1-per-gallon production tax credit for biodiesel and biomass diesel and the small agri-biodiesel producer credit of 10 cents per gallon extended through 2011.
  • Tax credits for energy-efficient appliances and homes.
