TEPCO says no Fukushima danger from latest quake – can we believe them?
Based on their track record of downplaying dangers, misreporting radiation leaks, and screwing up, it would be nice if we could believe Tokyo Electric (TEPCO) when they say there was no damage to the crippled Fukushima plant from the quake that struck northern Japan just hours ago.
But we can’t, can we?
Just listen to what physicist Michio Kaku has to say in this prescient video. “It’s still a ticking time bomb,” he says. “…If they have another aftershock… the accident could start all over again. It’s like hanging on by your fingernails.”
“In the last three weeks, everything we knew about the accident has been turned upside down. We were told three partial meldowns, don’t worry about it. Now we know it was 100 percent core melt in all three reactors. Radiation – ‘miminal’ that was released. Now we know it was comparable to the radiation at Chernobyl….”
He’s worried about aftershocks. We all should be.
