After much controversy and travail in the British courts over the past several months, the government of Britain has finally unveiled a plan to outright ban the sale of cars and light-duty trucks with internal combustion engines after the year 2040. Earlier this month, France announced a similar proposal that also takes effect the same year. By Steve […]
Donald Trump released his budget late Monday and, as expected, its massive cuts target life-saving public health and environmental programs and standards. Once again, we’re seeing Trump put polluters ahead of the safety our families. This budget will make our communities sick while lining the pockets of the fossil fuel industry. By Mary Ann Hitt, […]
The TRAIN Act (H.R. 2401)—the most deadly bill on House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s Pollution Plan—is expected to be brought up for a House floor vote today.
As initially introduced, the TRAIN Act was a biased and irresponsible “study” bill—creating a committee of cabinet members to review just the costs of a multitude of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) health standards, while ignoring the greater health and monetary benefits to Americans. While this version of the bill would have been harmful to human health, the bill is now an entirely different, and much more deadly beast that would result in many more deaths and health hazards…

In a surprise move, president Obama calls a halt on planned EPA regulation tightening ground-level ozone standards, delighting his opponents while mystifying his environmental supporters.
Why is the President now siding with polluters? The White House claims clean air protections would be too expensive. But this is a farce. Letting the polluters off the hook won’t save lives, won’t create jobs and won’t fuel innovation. It will, however, endanger the health and lives of children and seniors.
Mercury is bad. Nobody disagrees with that. But As part of their anti-EPA agenda, the new GOP/Tea Party Congressional Majority is pushing to roll back the EPA’s new rules on mercury emissions from cement plants – the third largest source in the US. Key phrases: “Jobkilling” and “powergrab”. Here’s the backstory on the rule, issued […]
The state of Utah has approved an open-pit coal mine to be located just 10 miles from Bryce Canyon National Park. GOP Governor Gary Herbert got the permit fast-tracked… after meeting with the mine’s developers and taking a $10,000 campaign contribution. “A strip mine is not the sort of canyon tourists are flocking to see,” […]
New rules proposed by the Environmental Protection Agency Tuesday will require 31 states to significantly improve their air quality for the sake of the rest of the country. The new rule which will be known as the Transport Rule will require 31 states and the District of Columbia to significantly improve their air quality by […]
Sarah Palin quotes from across the spectrum: from man not causing global warming, to the war in Iraq being a task from God, and how offshore drilling will save us – she says it all. 1. Introduction It’s obvious why Sarah Palin got the VP nod. And Saturday Night Live makes this point most brilliantly: […]
Check out some of the things Palin has had to say about the environment.
